I’ve been quite happy with DeLorme’s Blue Logger, since the wireless setup is so simple. If you do use one, I’d appreciate hearing from you, and I’ll pass on your experience, good or bad, to others. Have you noticed I’ve been using the past tense here? They are inexpensive and there is nothing special about the LT This worked well and had the additional advantage that it gave an update every second, as opposed to every 2 seconds as all the NMEA GPS receiver I’ve tried.

I do have a spare XP laptop with the Delorme map that I use occasionally, so I’ll place the Earthmate in it’s bag. The GPS receiver itself weighs only 2 ounces and can connect to non-Bluetooth systems via a USB cable includedbut for wireless connectivity, you must insert it into the bundled PowerPack. They’re on the Eartmate Order Form merely as a convenience. These require additional software to work with Tru-Traffic. I usbb suggest, unless you want to buy a Delorme navigation software product, that you abandon the Earthmate.

I haven’t had any personal experience with the Trimble GPS receivers, but Tru-Traffic users in two different states have experimented with a high-end one. There are no special drivers needed for this USB application. This program lets you select which grids you want to sync to your PDA. This isn’t critical, and it may not even matter, but without such a chipset, it’s likely to have difficulty maintaining a fix in low-signal conditions, such as urban canyons or under tree canopies.
Unfortunately these drivers work only on bit not bit versions of Windows prior to Window 7, so if you run a bit earthmaet of Windows or Windows 7 or above, then you’ll need to use the Bluetooth interface to connect to DeLorme’s GPS receivers.
We must distinguish a humble GPS Receiver hps full fledged GPS Navigation System, the sort of device you’d put in your car to find addresses and give you driving directions. Earthmate DB9 pin assignment by wire color.

This is an Amateur conversion done by a non-professional. It was relatively inexpensive and came with its own mapping software. It is amazing how well this unit performs now that it has a good power source. While recording trip logs, Tru-Traffic doesn’t like these long gaps. I give it a qualified recommendation.
See the discussion of that software above for more details. I’ve had hands-on experience using Tru-Traffic with a few different types of GPS receivers, and they’re not equal. I exrthmate to replace the db9 connector on my unit due to poor connection. If you do use one, I’d appreciate hearing from you, and I’ll pass on your experience, good or bad, to others.

I was able to install the Delorme Serial Emulator program on this mode, and got no no error eearthmate.
Solder the Red wire to the Positive post as shown Left. We haven’t confirmed that the problems are identical to the ones I had, but everything we could compare sounded perfectly consistent. Buy a standard USB hsb about 3 Ft. Their impression is that the Trimble insists on a high degree of accuracy, and when it can’t deliver that accuracy, it’s silent.
